Almost 90 per cent of Nationwide employees say the company is a ‘great place to work’

Nationwide Produce PLC has officially been recognised as a ‘Great Place to Work’ for the third year in a row.

The certification is based on an extensive survey highlighting the company’s workplace culture.

This year, 89 per cent of employees said Nationwide is a ‘great place to work’, compared to 54 per cent of employees at a typical UK-based company.

The key results from the survey were as follows:

  • 94 per cent said they receive fair treatment regardless of their sexual orientation.
  • 92 per cent reported receiving all the resources necessary to perform their roles effectively.
  • 92 per cent said their managers trust them to do a good job without watching over their shoulder.
  • 91 per cent said the company is a physically safe place to work.
  • 91 per cent highlighted the approachability and ease of communication with management, fostering an open and collaborative environment.
  • 91 per cent said they were made to feel welcome when they joined the company.

Nationwide’s group MD Tim O’Malley said: “We owe our continued success to our team of dedicated employees. Alongside highlighting our successes, the survey also provides valuable insights into where we can improve, which is where we will focus our efforts.

“This certification feels particularly poignant this year as I reflect on one of my dad’s many pearls of wisdom: ‘Son, your staff are your number one asset. Not lorries, or packhouses, or offices… staff! Look after them and they’ll look after you.’ He was right, as usual.”

Group HR director Phil Johnson added: “We pride ourselves in our inclusive company culture, fostering an environment where everyone feels empowered to do their best work and grow, and we firmly believe that this is the foundation of our success.”

The company stressed that its turnover growth – from £2.5m in 1988 to £186m in 2024 – is a testament to the “dedication and hard work” of its team.
