Latest figures from Waitrose for the week to 7 July suggest Andy Murray storming into the Wimbledon men’s final and the history books led to a 6.1 per cent increase in strawberry sales on last year.
Finance director Tom Athron said it was “a strong week despite the unseasonable weather”.
The upmarket retailer also said shoppers continue to turn to food more commonly associated with the winter and there was a 19 per cent increase on vegetable sales compared to the same time last year, with leeks and cabbage selling particularly well.
