The regional government of Murcia in south-eastern Spain is investing almost €20 million in its Clean Agriculture project over the next five years. The funds, which will be matched by the national farm ministry, will increase use of integrated production systems and biological control.

The programme was conceived four years ago but is now set to expand and cover greater areas of capsicum, citrus, tomato, stone and top fruit and grapes as well as smaller volume production of other salad and vegetable lines.

Part of the programme also includes research and technological development with ongoing field trials as well as enhancement of quality control in fields and packhouses.

The message is being taken to Fruit Logistica this week where a 200-strong delegation from Murcia, including the president of the regional government, will take a 500 square metre stand. The delegation will also be screening a video presentation of capsicum production in their region in a bid to differentiate it from produce grown in neighbouring Almeria.
