Murcia producer-exporters association Proexport has announced a seven per cent increase in the value of fresh produce exports from the south-eastern Spanish region in the first three months of the year compared to the same period in 2009. Volumes fell by 13 per cent, however mainly due to inclement climatic conditions, which brought unseasonably low temperatures and high levels of rainfall. Murcia exports 77 per cent of total Spanish lettuce sendings and while volumes fell by 13 per cent year on year, values rose by 24 per cent. Murcia is Spain’s main lemon growing area and this year exports fell by 33 per cent on last year.
