Munich airport is set to become a pan-European distribution hub for Thai-origin fresh produce.

The German airport’s operating company, FMG and its cargo handling subsidiary, Cargogate, recently signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Thai Airways Cargo and the Thai airfreight forwarders association to initiate the project.

“The purpose of the MoU is a statement of intent at this point and has not specified concrete starting dates for this joint project,” an FMG official commented.

“Therefore, we cannot confirm when the Thai produce hub will enter service nor whether or not extra infrastructure will be necessary (at the airport) or say at this stage how this project will be financed,” she added.

Earlier this year, Munich airport opened new perishable freight facilities comprising a border inspection post and animal station.
