Mooigezicht Estates' variety packs ready to be shipped

A new ‘variety pack’ punnet featuring green, black and red seedlessgrapes is set to his supermarket shelves this month following a novel idea from South Africa.

The enterprising Mooigezicht Estates, in the Hex River Valley table grape production region of South Africa, has come up with the novel idea which provides dramatic visual appeal as well as a variety in taste in 750g clear packages

As the South African grape harvest is currently in full swing, these tricolour variety packs will soon make their appearance on supermarket shelves in Europe and the UK. This novel packaging is a relatively new idea and has not really been done extensively in the past.

Stephan Rossouw, production manager at Mooigezicht Estates, said: “We are only able to produce these variety packs when we have white, red and black seedless grapes that are ripe simultaneously,

“Another consideration that we need to match is the sizes of the berries of the various varieties in order to give the pack a homogenous berry size.

“Although this requires more input during the packing process, we are delighted to be able to add value to our product by producing these attractive and tasty variety packs for our receivers.”

Mooigezicht is currently combining white Prime Seedless with Red Flame Seedless and Black Midnight Beauty and in weeks to come these will replaced by other seedless varieties as they ripen.
