Morrisons has announced plans for a new 920,000sqft regional distribution centre in Sittingbourne, Kent.

The UK’s fourth-largest retailer has signed a 20-year lease on the site worth £5.4 million a year, and expects to create up to 1,000 local jobs.

James Brook, a development surveyor at Morrisons, said: “We selected this site primarily because of its strategic location and close links to the South East motorway network, but also because of its unbeatable environmental credentials.”

Morrisons also indicated it is planning a new regional distribution centre in the South West.
