Morrisons will this week release an update on its progress at its annual general meeting, as it begins a new phase without Sir Ken Morrison at the helm.

The former chairman rounded off 55 years at the firm in March, following the announcement of a 66 per cent rise in annual profits to £612 million, for the year to February.

The supermarket chain has kept up its momentum after it emerged as the festive winner at the beginning of the year.

The latest TNS figures show the retailer’s market share has jumped to 11.4 per cent, up from 11.2 per cent, in the 12 weeks to May.

The data confirms that food retailers Aldi, Lidl, Farm Foods and Iceland have also seen big jumps in sales, while upmarket grocer Waitrose saw its sales growth dip slightly compared with the previous month.
