Morrisons has sold its two Channel Island Safeway stores to a Jersey-based business.

CI Traders has snapped up the retail outlets for £51m it is reported, and speculation is now rising over the possible sale of Morrisons’ Northern Irish Safeway stores.

Industry watchers are now expecting the 13 stores to be put on the market, with Asda the likely buyer.

The Jersey and Guernsey stores will continue to operate under the Safeway name, according to CI Traders.
