According to today's Financial Times, Morrisons may be on the verge of averting potentially crippling strike action, after making concessions to union bosses.

The UK's fourth largest supermarket chain is believed to have agreed to introduce national wage bargaining, but unions still insist this is just one of several issues that need to be resolved. However, the news is seen as a positive step towards ensuring that the possible nine-day strike is postponed.

Workers had voted to walk out after Morrisons initially refused to negotiate a national wage agreement at its depots in Aylesford, Kent, Warrington, Bristol, Gadbrook Park in Cheshire and Wakefield.

The first three-day walkout is due to begin on Friday.
