Bedfordshire residents are now able to buy locally grown chillies in Morrisons stores in the east of England.

Edible Ornamentals, the award-winning chilli specialist based in Chawston, has just been awarded a contract to supply chillies to the national supermarket chain, under the From My Farm brand.

Charlie Falkingham, an employee of From My Farm, said: “Research we conducted (for Morrisons) showed that 74 per cent of customers would like the opportunity to buy more regional produce in their stores. It’s great to find a supplier of fresh chillies within our region.”

She continued: “We are finding that people are increasingly concerned about where their food has come from. The name and location of each grower is clearly stamped on the pack so shoppers know exactly where their food has come from, supporting local growers in their region.”

Established in the early 1990s by Joanna Plum, an RHS-qualified horticulturist, Edible Ornamentals now grows more than 40 varieties of chilli.

Plum said: “Thanks to From My Farm, Morrisons customers can now buy locally grown chillies which will not only be fresher and have more flavour, but as they are local, it means fuel savings on transport and a lower carbon footprint.”
