Morrisons counters potato claims

Morrisons has hit back at criticism from Cornish consumers that it failed to keep shelves stocked with potatoes during recent snowy weather.

Shoppers in Newquay had complained that Cornish produce was being sent out of the county to regional distribution centres in Devon and Somerset, which were then unable to ensure deliveries from the neighbouring counties once the snow fell.

A spokeswoman for Morrisons said: “We were not aware of any major problems, although there might have been the odd incident in different regions that affected local stores. But there would not have been any store that was left completely without potatoes.

“If we are unable to collect goods from our supplier, we ask them to deliver to our regional distribution depots.”
