The Carbon Trust has today launched a scheme to recognise carbon emission reductions, in a move to quell consumer fears that organisations’ green claims are false.

Twelve organisations have been awarded the badge by the trust, which is funded by the government, including several government departments and supermarket Morrisons.

The companies and departments were assessed by whether they accurately measured their carbon emissions and reduced output over the last three years.

Spokesman Henry Garthwaite said firms must also show “they have got the management infrastructure embedded within the organisation to show they will continue on that trajectory”.

The trust expects to sign up hundreds more organisations in the next 12 to 18 months.
