Morrisons, which won the Foods from Spain Re:fresh Multiple Retailer of the Year in May, last night picked up the Supermarket of the Year crown at the Retail Industry Awards 2008.
Judges praised its outstanding business performance, with one commenting that “Morrisons' time had finally come”.
Morrisons was also crowned Fresh Flower Supermarket of the Year, while Tesco walked away with the Environmental Retailer of the Year gong.
Convenience Chain of the Year was The Co-operative Group, as Henderson (Spar) walked away with the regional convenience award.
Aldi, which was on the Re:fresh shortlist for Retailer of the Year, was given an Outstanding Achievement award last night, due to its “good financial performance”.
