The Fresh Produce Consortium (FPC) is reminding importers that there is to be no further extension of the period of tolerance for morpholine on fruit. This means that any fruit, including citrus or other fruits with peel not usually eaten, that has been treated with a wax containing morpholine, should not be imported after next Friday.
FPC chief executive Nigel Jenney said: “The European Commission... has decided at this stage not to extend the period of tolerance for imports coming from third countries beyond 19 November for imports of products ‘if peels are not expected to be consumed, and no migration of morpholine into the edible part can be expected’.”
