Bramley apple grower and processor Fourayes teamed up with grower-marketeer Norman Collett Ltd to appear on the Good Food channel all this week in Monster Munchies.
Their task for the programme, which was filmed in September was to create a giant blackberry and Bramley apple crumble in competition with another Kent-based team over a 24-hour period. Fourayes-Norman Collett’s one-tonne result was an incredible five times heavier than the largest fruit crumble previously recorded by Guinness World Records.
Team Fourayes-Norman Collett was up against Scott Anderson Ltd in the race to create a dish that impressed judges across the competition criteria of size, presentation and taste. Five local judges were called in to form the panel and former England rugby player Matt Dawson, took charge as presenter of the show with final showdown held at Brogdale Farm.
Phil Acock, md at Fourayes, said: “This challenge was right up our street as a huge amount of peeling and dicing of apples was needed. Not only could we prepare the apples for the crumble but we were also able to make the blackberry and Bramley apple filling. Fruit fillings are our speciality; we process over 11,000 tonnes of Bramley apples every year for use in desserts and baked goods across the country. We’re always open to new challenges and were thoroughly delighted with the result.”
