The Booths store on Haven Road in Lytham marked the beginning of the English apple season on Tuesday, with a special delivery from Kent.
Shoppers gathered to watch an original 1926 Ford Model T deliver the retailers’ first English Discovery apples of the season.
Customers were invited to sample the fresh Discovery by a life-size Adam the Apple character, and also had the chance to speak to suppliers.
Andy Sadler, managing director of English fruit marketing company Norman Collett, said: “This crop of English Discovery apples was harvested and packed on Saturday so the apples are really fresh and juicy. We are delighted to be working with Booths and supplying its English apples.”
Rainfall during the growing period has resulted in a decent-sized crop of good-quality fruit, he added.
Booths’ fresh produce buyer Chris Treble said: “We pride ourselves on providing fresh produce grown in England. Norman Collett has supplied Booths with English apples for nearly 12 years now and they are always really tasty.”
Discovery will be on shelf at all 26 Booths stores until the end of August, when Worcester will take over the English reins.
