Competition minister Ed Davey gave his assurance to the Grocery Market Action Group this week that government will be forging ahead with legislation on establishing a grocery ombudsman.
“The consultation started by the last government will be published before summer recess on 29 July,” said GMAG chairman Andrew George MP.
“I am pressing for a Bill in the spring of next year.” George admitted the name of the new body is a sticking point.
“It seems no-one is taken on the term ‘ombudsman’ and we are open to proposals. At the moment we are suggesting Office of Grocery Supply,” he added.
