Guy Poskitt was delighted with the vegetable victory

Carrot grower MH Poskitt Ltd, Flavourfresh and William Barnett were among the winners at the Grower of the Year Awards, held at the Wyndham Grand in London last week.

The award ceremony, run by Horticulture Week and Grower in association with Asda, the Horticultural Trades Association and the National Farmers' Union, celebrate the best in UK agriculture and horticulture.

MH Poskitt landed the Vegetable Grower of the Year gong and received a highly commended for its Mokum’carrots, which are harvested daily by hand and have a very sweet taste. They are supplied to Asda tray packed with a small amount of tops.

William Barnett of Tillington Farm, a Co-operative Farm, won Top-fruit Grower of the Year and Flavourfresh landed Salads Grower of the Year.

LM Porter of East Seaton Farm scooped the Soft-fruit Grower of the Year as well as landing the overall edible grower award.

Bristol Fruit Sales won the business initiative prize for its Growfair Pride of Cornwallcampaign, while The Co-operative Farms’ Grown by Us range was highly commended. The Bristolian business also gained the Trade Marketing Campaign of the Year gong.

Guy Poskitt, managing director MH Poskitt Ltd, said: “I am very proud of this award and I would particularly like to dedicate this to all my staff, as they contribute so much to the business and without their special efforts none of this would have been possible.”

Poskitt also praised the support that Asda and other customers have shown to his business. He said: “Their commitment to my business has enabled me to invest and expand and in return this has enabled me to provide them with exactly what their customers demand.”

MH Poskitt produces more than 50,000 tonnes of carrots annually, as well as also growing parsnips, swede and potatoes.
