MFSS connects kids with countryside

The Marden Fruit Show Society (MFSS) took a stand for the first time at the South of England Agricultural Society’s (SEAS) Connect with the Countryside event.

In its third year, the SEAS event welcomed 47 schools from East and West Sussex and Brighton and Hove areas.

The MFSS took apple juice to the event for the children to taste along with strawberries from Kent. Fruit juice company Clearly Juice, based in Headcorn and winners of the Apple Juice Competition at the National Fruit Show last year, provided MFSS with its single and blended juice for the occasion, and Berry Gardens donated soft fruit for the children to taste. The MFSS has increased its activities this year as part of the society’s 75th anniversary celebrations.

Gill Collins, Marden Fruit Show secretary, said: “The children really enjoyed the fruit, and were very receptive to the apple juice, although it is still surprising that so many children are unwilling to at least try the fruit we had on offer.”

The day included a livestock area, farm machinery and a countryside zone. The MFSS exhibited in the horticultural area along with the British Tomato Growers Association and many others, which all had a variety of fun activities for the children.
