Andalusian melons were in full view as 13,000 visitors attended the Taste of Spain festival at Borough Market in London.
Hortyfruta, the organisation which represents 18,000 fruit and vegetable growers and 80 per cent of the traders in the Andalusia region, had a sampling stand at the two day event where they sampled over 300kg of produce and handed out 2,000 recipe cards.
Consumers tasted Andalusian Galia, Cantaloupe and Honeydew melons, as well as Black and seedless watermelons, all of which are available in UK supermarkets now. Cherry tomatoes from the region were also extremely popular with visitors.
A Taste of Spain was run by the Spanish Tourist Board and brought together a variety of Spanish food and drink producers and London’s leading Spanish restaurants.
The sampling activity is part of Hortyfruta’s larger communications campaign to educate consumers about the delicious range of fresh fruit and vegetables from Andalusia.
