Keelings (UK) Ltd linked up with fresh melon customer Costco to mark the cash-and-carry operator’s new warehouse opening in Coventry.

Keelings brought renowned melon artist David Loh to the store for two days to put on a display of his carving.

Claire Power Keelings (UK) Ltd marketing manager booked Loh for the opening to add some dramatic effect to the produce aisles. “The very likeable character that David is attracted huge interest to the department,” said Power. “This was definitely a unique way of promoting watermelons and got everybody talking about not only how great they looked, but how delicious in flavour they were as well.”

And Keelings’ customer was pleased with the outcome too. Rachel Kalb from Costco Produce Buying said: “We wanted to create some theatre in the produce department at the Coventry opening, and there was certainly a wow factor about David and his melons. The carvings were spectacular and a talking point of the opening.”

At the end of the opening day, the melons were sold to members, and the money from the sale donated to Children in Need.
