McDonald's trials new fridge concept

Fast food giant McDonald’s is trialing a new refrigeration system in its Islington outlet.

The Tutela system, made by Next Controls, automatically monitors the temperature of chilled and frozen foods using remote sensors.

The sensors are polled at regular intervals and readings monitored by a control room in Farnborough, removing the need for the obligatory checks three times a day to be done manually in-store.

Temperature records are then stored centrally by the Tutela system, and can be accessed by McDonald's at any time from any location using a secure browser over the Internet.

Next Controls says quick access records could help make spot environmental checks easier, while the overall system will help reduce food wastage on a day-to-day basis.
