Fast-food giants McDonalds is thought to be increasing emphasis on local sourcing in the UK according to reports in the farming trade press.

Following a press conference at the Royal Show, the burger chain hinted it was looking to emphasise its local sourcing policy.

The company already sources a lot of its produce from the UK and Ireland, including lettuce.

Keith Kenny, head of UK supply chain, told Farmers Weekly: “We’re very proud of the food we produce and we don’t get enough credit for that.

“You’re going to see a lot of this change in our approach as we change for our customers. All the research says they want more information on what they’re putting in their mouths.

“And given the preference, most of them want it to be British.”

He added McDonalds is also planning to increase its organic range.
