McDonald's lettuce supplier Natures Way Foods is expecting to produce 60,000 heads of iceberg and Batavia lettuce for the fast-food chain's four restaurants on the Olympic Park site during the games.

McDonald's, the official restaurant of the London Olympics and Paralympics, is expecting to serve an estimated 1.75 million meals in 29 days.

Michele Banik-Rake, head of agriculture and Olympic Games supply chain at McDonald’s UK, concluded: “In partnership with our longstanding British supply chain we’ve spent three years planning for what we hope will be an Olympic catering success.

“Having had one of the wettest summers on record to date, we’re obviously hoping that the weather is going to be in our favour to ensure McDonald’s lettuce is on champion form for games time.”
