Newly appointed McDonald’s ceo died of a heart attack on Tuesday at a McDonald’s convention in Florida. Jim Cantalupo, 60, was appointed as chairman and ceo only 16 months ago after coming out of retirement to take up the post.

He had been with the company for 28 years. He is accredited with turning the fast-food restaurant chain around by including healthier food to the menu, as well as focusing on revitalising the image well-known food brand.

Cantalupo enforced the slow-down of the restaurant expansion, even closing some down and added salads to the popular menu. Just last week, McDonald’s launched an anti-obesity campaign and introduced adult happy meals with salads as well as healthier children’s meals.

The newly elected ceo of the company is 43-year old Australian, Charlie Bell.
