Leading potato specialist MBMG has been nominated as the “greatest authority on chips” by one of the country’s most prominent chefs.
Heston Blumenthal, the chef famous for his unusual scientific approach to cooking, highlighted the company for its chip expertise as part of a new guide to eating in the UK entitled The BMW 1 Series Good Food Ride.
The news comes as MBMG introduces three new additions to its Potato Lovers retail range, launched at the opening of Selfridges’ new produce section. The company has added Potatoes for Roasting (1kg), Potatoes for Mashing (1kg) and Potatoes for Baking to its Potato Lovers retail range.
It was selected as one of 101 entries to be included in the guide based on excellent food, aesthetic surroundings and social experience on offer.
Blumenthal, whose celebrated, crunchy triple-cooked chips are widely recognised as the best in Britain, visited MBMG for his forthcoming BBC2 TV series, In Search Of Perfection.
He was attracted by the care MBMG takes in the growing and storing of potatoes for a specific end use, as well as the advanced analyses they carry out on each crop.
He said: “You might think a potato is just a potato, but it’s not…the amount of dry matter content is all important. MBMG tests different varieties of potato to make sure that you’ve got the right one for the right job. They are great at what they do.”
In Search of Perfection was aired on BBC2 on November 2 and The BMW Good Food Ride will be distributed mainly through food shops and BMW outlets but will also be for sale on amazon.co.uk
