MBM Produce has gone into administration.

The fresh produce supplier, which has traded as MBMG since a merger in 2006 between MBM Produce Ltd and FW Gedney, appointed administrator Grant Thornton on July 10.

Trade is continuing as usual from the company’s Holbeach site, which supplies a wide range of prepared vegetables, and its Bicker site.

Grant Thornton’s Nick Kidd told freshinfo: “We are continuing to trade at the Holbeach and Bicker sites and we are pushing for going concern sales of these sites. We are talking to interested parties in relation to both.”

Kidd blamed the firm going into administration on “pressure on margins over a sustained period of time”.

MBMG serves all sectors of the industry including retailers, processors, wholesalers, caterers, large foodservice operatives and the export market with a wide range of fresh vegetables, fruit and salads and more than 600,000 tonnes of potatoes. The firm employs more than 500 people in the UK.
