Winning the Florette Lifetime Achievement Award, David Matthews, managing director of Bristol Fruit Sales, said: “I was completely surprised - I had no idea I was up for it and I was totally humbled. Of all the things that happen, to get an award from your peers is a great thrill. I am totally overwhelmed.”
Matthews who told the audience the award was a perfect way to sign off after 44 years in the industry - he retires this week - and delivered one of his renowned speeches, managing to be at once impassioned and lighthearted.
