Marshalls had a successful open day on the June 1, at the Butterwick site on Mill Lane, in Lincolnshire, welcoming more than 400 visitors of all ages attending to enjoy a huge array of activities and displays, from vintage and modern machinery, field planting demonstrations, wildlife walks, old local photographs and the plant-your-own pumpkin proving a particular hit.

The event was aimed at drawing in the local community to demonstrate the operation of Marshalls, which includes 1,550 hectares of land to be cropped in 2008, a transport fleet, two packing sites in the local area and the operation in Murcia, Spain. With help from Westhorpe Flowers and Plants, Marshalls was able to create a visual time trail back from fully prepared product on the supermarket shelf to the beginning with seed and propagation.

Organisations that contributed to the event included the Royal Society for the Protection of Birds, Butterwick Parish Council, Butterwick Beaver, Cubs and Scouts and Westhorpe Flowers and Plants, the Burden Group, F Clayton and Son, Leverton Fire Station and DG Produce.
