Nick Marsden, sales director and board member at UK-based soft fruit supplier Berry Gardens, has left the company.

Berry Gardens chairman Paul Kelsey confirmed in a brief statement that Marsden had departed the company in order to seek new opportunities.

Kelsey added: 'I would like to thank Nick for his part in building Berry Gardens to its position as the UK's leading berry production and marketing group, and wish him well for the future.'

Trained as a horticulturalist, Marsden joined fresh produce importer Hunter Saphir in 1983, working at its London offices and packing site in Faversham, Kent.

He subsequently moved to banana supplier Jamaican Producers Group, before becoming joint sales manager for AFI – now part of Total Berry – in 1988, with responsibility for UK procurement.

In 1996, he was appointed sales and procurement director of Kentish Garden Marketing.
