M&S to farm out on-line operations?

Internet giant Amazon is being tipped to take over Marks and Spencer’s internet operations.

The high street chain’s new chief executive, Stuart Rose, is looking to streamline operations, and is thought to be considering contracting out its on-line retail business and reports are indicating Amazon as a front-runner.

Rose has said he is keen to focus on M&S’s core values on the high street to revitalise its flagging sales.

He said while he expected the internet operation to be a growing part of the business, they were exploring whether a partnership would provide additional benefits than could be achieved on their own.

However both Amazon and the retailer said they could neither confirm nor deny the two were in discussions.
