Marks & Spencer has poached one of Tesco.com’s leading lights in a move which could see it increase its online grocery offer.

The upmarket retailer has tempted Laura Wade-Gery to be its executive director of multi-channel and e-commerce.

She had been due to move from her role as ceo of Tesco online to take up a newly-created position as M&S head of non-food in the UK. It is thought the emphasis on M&S’ e-commerce could signal an entrance into online grocery home delivery.

In his strategic review in November, chief executive Marc Bolland unveiled plans to double M&S’s online sales, which totalled £413 million in the year ended March 2010, by 2013-14.
