Marks & Spencer has poached one of Morrisons’ top bosses to head up its convenience sector.

M&S chief executive Marc Bolland returned to his former employer to headhunt Christopher Taylor to become director of Simply Food, franchise and hospitality

Taylor was heading up the project to expand Morrisons’ into smaller convenience stores but will join his old boss on 3 May, a year after Bolland joined M&S.

Morrisons plans to open its first M Local smaller stores later this year.

Taylor will take charge of running M&S’ 360 Simply Food stores and 335 restaurants and cafes located within stores countrywide.

The move follows a reshuffle at M&S which has seen convenience boss Neil Hyslop become director of space planning and development while Taylor will report to M&S’ director of retail Steve Rowe,

Hyslop will be responsible for overhauling M&S’ current sites and developing new shops.

Taylor is the second high profile poaching by Bolland, in Janurary, Laura Wade-Gery, former ceo of Tesco’s online operation, was lured to M&S by the Dutchman.
