Marks & Spencer is taking its Plan A project to increase organic and local sourcing round to several major farm shows this year and has already chalked up one successful meet-the-buyer session at the Balmoral Show in Northern Ireland.

Local producers of vegetables and fruit were encouraged to meet senior buyers at last week’s event.

It was the first such session M&S has held in the province, where it has 14 stores.

Malcolm Copeland, who looks after the Northern Ireland area for M&S, said: “This is a new initiative by M&S to create a stronger bond between us and producers.

“We already source 100 per cent meat and poultry locally in the province, but have plans to move on to sourcing other products.”

M&S is celebrating 40 years of operation in Northern Ireland this year.
