Shipping company Maersk Sealand is planning to merge a new transatlantic service to with a shuttle it launched earlier between Panama and Chile to provide a reefer link between the western coast of South America and vital European markets.

Ulrik Storm of Maersk Sealand told freshinfo that no timetable had yet been set for the new set up which it is still working on. 'There are a lot of factors influencing the situation including demand out of Chile and having the right vessels in place, so we are still working out the finer details,' said Storm.

The extension to the Danish shipping service would run between the Chilean port of San Antonio and Balboa.
