Transition Cornwall is holding a special evening event on July 4 to raise awareness of oil depletion, climate change and the impact on farming.

Speakers for the evening include Mel Hall, regional director of the National Farmers' Union (South West), Patrick Holden, Soil Association director and David Strahan, UK expert on oil depletion issues.

The evening has been organised by Cllr Jennifer Gray, under the banner of Transition Cornwall, in conjunction with the Organic Studies Centre & VTS at Duchy College. It marks the launch of a new partnership formed to produce a series of talks, workshops and lectures specifically for Cornwall's farming community. The aim is to build positive and pro-active solutions that address climate change and oil depletion.

Hall commented: "Climate changes poses both challenges and opportunities for farmers and growers in this region, and it is important that we have this debate sooner rather than later to ensure that our producers can minimise the impacts and also prosper from the opportunities."

The presentation will take place in the Public Hall, Liskeard, at 7pm. Tickets are £3 at the door. For advance bookings, contact info@transitioncornwall.com, or call 01736 334676.
