A new mango event designed to forge trade links between Pakistan and the UK is to take place in London in the summer.
The Pakistan Horticulture Development and Export Company (PHDEC) is to organise a mango festival and technical seminar in conjunction with the Pakistan High Commission in June.
PHDEC will also participate in a Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Consortium to be held in the UK this year in October, reports the Associated Press of Pakistan.
The High Commissioner of Pakistan to the UK, Wajid Shamsul Hasan, will be joined at the events by the chief executive of the PHDEC, Bashir Hussain.
PHDEC was incorporated as a company in July 2009 and is the designated department for the development and export of fruits, vegetables, flowers, dates and honey within the Pakistani government.
The production cycle of Pakistani mangoes is from May to September, while Pakistan is ranked among the top five date producers and exporters in the world.
The High Commissioner has welcomed the steps taken by the PHDEC and assured full support for the event in London.
