As you will see from our exhaustive Fruit Logistica report, FPJ certainly got a lot out of this year’s jaunt to the German capital - and not just the ubiquitous collection of hangovers and aching limbs.

Heavy snowfall in Berlin had no effect at all on participation figures, with the show breaking records yet again in terms of both footfall and exhibitor numbers. The UK contingent was out in full force, undeterred by difficult travel arrangements and bone-chilling temperatures.

The stage was set for a fascinating event this year and, as we trod the Messe Berlin boards, it became clear that innovation is alive and well and the post-recession fruit industry has been quick to react to a new trading environment.

One theme that cropped up again and again as we spoke to companies was how many of them are now looking to open up new markets - be that the UK, eastern Europe, Russia, the Middle East or the Far East - and are adapting their product ranges and services accordingly. The Latin Americans, in particular, seem to have their sights set firmly on the UK market - one to watch in the future, I feel.

There were so many new developments to report on that we had a hard time whittling them down to the selection in the magazine, so check out www.freshinfo.com for further news from the show.

Hopefully, you have by now fully recovered from the Fruit Logistica marathon, and we look forward to seeing you all again next year.
