Local apples in store at Booths

Booths has teamed up with a family-run farm in the heart of Cheshire to offer a range of traditional home-grown apples from October.

The north-west retailer and Winsor’s Willington Fruit Farm, near Tarporley, will work together to put more than six local varieties on the shelves throughout Cheshire, Lancashire, Cumbira and Yorkshire.

The arrivals will include red dessert apple Spartan, Belle de Boskoop - a red variety with a russetted skin finish that can be cooked or eaten fresh - green Crispin, also with a dual purpose, as well as Kidd’s Orange, Cox’s Orange Pippin and Chiver’s Delight.

Booths fresh produce buyer Chris Treble said: “It’s a real pleasure to be working with Willington Fruit Farm in Cheshire to deliver great tasting apples to our customers throughout the region as the English apple season gets underway.

“We take great pride in providing our customers with healthy produce grown locally, ensuring quality and freshness. It also offers people the opportunity to try the more unusual, older varieties.”

The Spartan, Kidd’s Orange, Cox’s Orange Pippin and Chiver’s Delight varieties are priced at £1.59 for a four-pack. The Belle de Boskoop and Crispin varieties, which will be sold loose, will retail at £1.69 per kg and £1.29 per kg respectively.
