Action from last year's match, where Growers United took on West Bromwich Albion Legends

A host of Liverpool FC legends and TV stars are to play in charity football fundraisers staged by a group working in the fresh produce industry called Growers United.

On 11 July, Growers United’s own team – featuring employees from firms such as G’s Fresh, Vicarage Nurseries, and ValeFresco, among others – go up against a Liverpool Legends XI, starring Phil Neal, Ian Rush, Phil Babb and John Aldridge. Entry to the game at Evesham United’s Spiers & Hartwell Jubilee Stadium is £6. Growers United FC (GUFC) faced West Brom Legends in 2014.

On 18-19 July, a 9-a-side football tournament featuring up to 32 teams from a range of firms will be held in Evesham, and on 19 July, GUFC play a TV Stars XI, from shows such as Emmerdale and Geordie Shore.

Entry to this game, also at Jubilee Stadium, is £3.

Bal Padda, of Growers United, said they were “just trying to do something” in their “little backwater”.

Growers United has raised around £27,000 for Cancer Research UK in recent years.
