The new packs have been designed for both presentation and protection

Linpac Packaging has improved its designs and launched a new range of trays for tomatoes to satisfy consumer demand for packaging that offers better product presentation.

When buying tomatoes, consumers want the fruit to look fresh and taste as good at home as it does in the store as well as offering product protection, according to Linpac.

Linpac’s new range has also been developed in response to the growing demand from packers and retailers for a design which incorporates recycled content as well as improving presentation.

The tomato trays can be manufactured in HIPS with recycled content or rPET and come in a range of sizes suitable for standard, vine, plum and baby plum tomatoes in various counts.

The new trays have been developed in partnership with PG Packaging, a leading supplier of packaging to the tomato industry. PG packaging will be the main distributor of the trays to the UK market.

Ian Perkins, UK produce business development manager for Linpac Packaging, said: “There is an increasing demand for packaging with recycled content from consumers and retailers and this new range of trays for tomatoes goes one step further. Its lightweight design not only looks good on the shelf, it retains its strength despite using the minimal amount of polymer required.

“We have developed the range of tomato trays by working closely with PG Packaging to create a product that will appeal to consumers. They an excellent design yet competitively priced, so we are expecting strong demand for the trays, particularly for the rPET version.”
