Lincs growers urged to take pride

Mark Tinsley, chairman of the Lincolnshire Forum for Agriculture and Horticulture, has urged the region’s food and flower industry players to “stand up and tell the UK, indeed the world, about this gem of a county”.

In a bid to encourage support for the Select Lincolnshire brand, Tinsley appealed for producers in the county who were not already signed up to the scheme to get involved.

Select’s membership has been increasing at an “impressive rate” since the organisation’s annual seminar this year, said Tinsley. “We are grateful for that support and enthusiasm. What is essential as well, though, for this initiative to really flourish is effective brand display. It’s all very well joining Select Lincolnshire, and we applaud all of you that have done so, but we need you to show people that your company is part of Select Lincolnshire, and that your produce derives from this beautiful county.

“Telling the world how wonderful your produce is, is all well and good, but effective promotion of an asset takes time, hard work and an intelligent strategy, and will only work if consumers appreciate the product being promoted.

“It is also vital that the produce is easily identified. This is the key to the future success of the Select Lincolnshire brand. In order to sustain the initiative, we need the Select brand to be recognised country wide, as well as in our own county.”

Tinsley thanked the efforts of Jill McCarthy and her team, and said there is now a plethora of food producers, from the very small to the very large, involved.

“But we also need the help of the producers, and for those of you who haven’t already done so, we would urge you to start using the Select Lincolnshire logo more prominently. It can be used on labels, buildings, vehicles, but why not on your website, carrier bags, indeed any promotional material,” Tinsley added.
