Lincolnshire gets promo at Royal Show

The farming county of Lincolnshire got a promotional boost at this year’s Royal Show through its new brand ‘Select Lincolnshire,’ a joint venture between Lincolnshire County Council and separate agricultural and ornamental organisations.

“The aim of ‘Select Lincolnshire’ is to get people to use this brand and help promote the county’s produce,” said Katherine Aitchison, one of the organisers of the brand, whose chairman is vegetable grower Mark Tinsley.

Select Lincolnshire one of whose primary aims is to promote local produce, has grown its membership by 96 percent in the last six months after a slow start and now has 47 Lincolnshire businesses - mainly growers - signed up to use the brand.

Aitchison said it was interesting that following the development of farm shops and farmers’ markets, consumers now wanted to see local produce named in their nearest supermarket.

“We are awaiting the results of a recent survey we carried out, asking consumers if the product had the name ‘Lincolnshire’ on the product, and what exactly did it mean to them,” she said. “Did it actually come from Lincolnshire?”
