Lidl will open a new £70 million regional distribution centre in Doncaster, South Yorkshire, as part of its UK expansion.
The supermarket is the latest household name to join iPort in Doncaster, a 337-acre greenfield development, with other occupants including Fellowes, Amazon and CEVA. The new Lidl depot will occupy 58,400 sq m of the site, and is set to serve stores in the north of the country.
The news comes as last month Lidl opened a regional distribution centre in Southampton that created more than 400 new jobs.
Adrienne Howells, Lidl UK’s head of warehouse expansion, said: “We are thrilled to be in a position to confirm our 13th distribution centre in Great Britain, bringing investment to Doncaster, new jobs and additional support to our existing and future stores in the north of England.”
Michael Hughes, CEO of Verdion, said: “We are delighted to announce this significant signing to another well-known name at iPort. Lidl is a strong operator with great confidence in the region, bringing with it many new job opportunities for Doncaster and the surrounding areas.”
