Lidl moves into fresh-cut herbs

Lidl is to stock fresh-cut herbs for the first time.

The discounter is the latest UK supermarket to stock the lines after salad supplier Langmead Produce won the contract to supply the range of three pre-packed herbs.

The chain, which had previously sold just potted herbs, began selling fresh-cut mint, parsley and coriander in 25g packs on Monday.

Langmead Produce believes there is potential to extend the range into thyme, sage and rosemary in the future.

The herbs are being distributed from two southern Lidl hubs, with the potential to go nationwide.

Supplies are emanating from the UK in the coming weeks, before switching to Spain for the winter season.

Langmead Produce marketing executive Ed Fraser told FPJ: “We have built a great relationship with Lidl through our babyleaf supply and are delighted that we have the opportunity now to supply fresh herbs to grow our business with Lidl.”

Langmead Produce also supplies unwashed rocket, unwashed spinach and lambs lettuce into Lidl as well as fresh-cut herbs into Tesco.
