The Liberal Democrats have put forward their new plans for rural Britain at The Royal Show.

The party’s ‘A Fair Future For Rural England’ manifesto emphasises the need to create sustainable rural communities supported by good schools, medical and bus services, and thriving local businesses.Grower businesses may be interested to note that the Lib Dems place broadband coverage as key to the revival of remote areas that have been left behind as better-located rural areas grow rapidly.

They also want to create clearer food labelling by ensuring that all food is labelled with the appropriate health, animal welfare and environmental standards. “We have a vision for a rural England in which no community is divided for want of affordable housing or adequate transport links,” leader Menzies Campbell announced “Where farmers are guaranteed a fair price for food from supermarkets, and where everyone is served by good local schools, health care and visible policing.”
