After researching the market and talking to a number of suppliers, it selected tray sealers from Packaging Automation Ltd.Packaging Automation supplied two Vision 400 machines to seal the thousands of packs of cauliflower florets, broccoli florets, purple sprouting broccoli, and mixed vegetables supplied to Asda stores throughout the UK every week.

PA supported Lincolnshire Field Products by carrying out packaging trials at its base in Cheshire. These trials confirmed the suitability of the chosen packaging materials and ensured the sealed packs met stringent quality standards. And by using a specially designed modified atmosphere film, Lincolnshire Field Products has been able to achieve longer shelf life for its products.

Overall product presentation has been enhanced both through the use of the Lincolnshire Field Products' operations manager Steve Bates explains: "It was vital that we were able to meet the challenge set by Asda at the end of last year. Traditionally we supplied overwrapped packs. We spoke to a number of people and found that PA could offer exactly what we needed.

Lincolnshire Field Products boasts a turnover of around £85 million per year, and farms 11,000 acres. The operation, which employs over 200 people, has been supplying Asda for more than 15 years.

Packaging Automation's sales engineer Jonathan Mildred said: "We worked hard to make sure they could deliver the new pack format Asda required, and help them deliver the right solution first time. Because they were totally new to tray sealing we were able to support them through the initial development work to make sure they got the best machine for the application."
