Leatherhead Food International (LFI), provider of scientific research, information and consultancy for the global food and drink industry, has appointed a new chief executive.

LFI's former research director, Dr Paul Berryman, has been promoted to chief executive of the company renowned for its comprehensive world food legislation services.

Berryman has been with the company, which provides multi-lingual advice on different food laws in operation around the world, since 2005. In his role as research director, Berryman has been busy improving the profitability of LFI’s research and analytical services, whilst developing and implementing a new science strategy.

A trained food technologist and analytical chemist with four science degrees, Berryman is well suited to his new role at LFI. He was previously the deputy chairman of the LACORS Food Policy Forum, which co-ordinates UK Food Enforcement Policy, and as a member of the Food Labelling Committee he provided expert national advice on interpretation of food labelling laws. LFI’s new chief executive has also sat on three Food Standards Agency committees and was recently appointed to the Steering Committee of DRINC - a new £10 million BBSRC initiative to fund research into nutrition, health and bio-actives.

“Paul has the right mix of scientific, regulatory and business skills to lead LFI to further success,” said LFI chairman Dr Alistair Penman. “He has a great track record in developing strategic plans for technical organisations and has excellent links in the food industry, government and academia. I am looking forward to working with Paul and his executive team to enhance our services.”
