Kent-based company Local Food Alliance (LFA) launched at Fruit Focus last week. The LFA has been building up a grower base for two months leading up to the launch and will now be able to offer businesses in Kent a one-stop supply of local food and drink.

“The aim is to set a recognisable brand that follows a high set of standards, as well as sourcing everything locally,” said Josh Kann, an executive of LFA. “But we will be approaching small independent retailers with our service before we go to large multiples, as first and foremost we want to benefit Kent’s small companies.”

Kann maintains that the LFA was set up to group small producers and growers in Kent that do not always have the necessary tools to bring their produce to the larger market. The LFA is hoping to attract customers from the foodservice and public sector, as well as retailers. Then the plan is to expand and offer the service in other areas than just Kent.

“The plan is to roll it out to South East, Hampshire and so on. The individual areas will receive food and drink from that area,” explained Kann. “We will keep food mileage down by keeping it local and give the local businesses, that have never had the resources before, to have a real go at an opportunity like this.”
